Just a bit of courage…

I am naturally this shy person that is terrified of putting myself out there, especially if there is a chance to fail. Failure is terrifying. It’s the one thing that wreaks of ” I will never go anywhere in life and I will never grow and change, I will always stay the same” but the thing is… that’s not true. Sometimes the best outcomes a person can ever have is from failure. Because experiencing failure is how you grow and learn and shape your life into that person you will become.

So, in honor of accepting possible failure I have put myself out there in a way that is all my own. I have put in an application to a place that I really want to go in a career that will eventually be the means to the end, so to speak. I don’t want to talk about it too much because I could jinx it, just know I’ve definitely put myself out there. So I’m nervous like a Chihuahua in a daycare full of toddlers.

I’ve got some beef…

So, here is the thing…

In the past few years any time a romance movie, especially coming from a book, comes out it is IMMEDIATELY compared to Twilight.

For example, I recently read a review on Rotten Tomatoes about the book series that is being put to film.. City of Bones: The Mortal Instruments. The review goes on to say eventually say that this kind of genre is only popular because Twilight put it on the market.

This says more to me about the person that says these things than the authors who write these books. I understand that everyone has their own opinions and that is great. Have your opinion, but if popular books, such as Twilight, gets people reading again and stop watching television… then why not? What is so wrong with a book series highlighting certain genres of books? Nothing. And not every book needs to be or should be compared to Twilight. This is not a Team A or Team B book series. There are complicated relationships for various reasons and it’s neat to get involved and get to thinking and coming up with your own ideas of why things are the way they are and what will they be. It’s part of the mystery, it’s the entire point of reading a book in the first place. Getting involved and sucked in to figure out where the story is leading you.

I love The Host and the movie adaptation was pretty good, but the entire Team Jared and Team Ian thing drives me nuts. It drove me nuts when used in Twilight. There is an entire plot behind it. It’s not like there was a choice to make, the choice was already made. The question is… why are these guys drawn to that person when they aren’t meant to be together? What is the purpose? What is the plan?

Be creative. Get involved. Share, discuss, and be excited. Find books that you can learn good vocabulary and grammar. Stretch your imagination. Write your own fanfiction or novel. Reading is good and reading is healthy, no matter if it’s about how sparkling vegetarian vampires love each other or a good mystery crime fighting story. Get involved. Read.
